Why Have a Bible College or School?
This question that has been around for a very long time. Many have asked this question and wonder why there should be a dedicated college or school teaching the Bible in the first place. Just for us to have a perspective. Paul the Apostle studied under Gamaliel and later under Barnabas. There was a prophetic school in a city called Ramah in Israel and Jesus himself taught his disciple in a dedicated way or school so to say. Obviously we are all called to study the word of God personally, as well as in Church, in groups and so on. But what makes a School or College dedicated to Studying the Word of God different. Let's take a look at a few reasons:
- Having a deeper understanding of the word of God from Bible scholars and Teachers of the Word of God gives you a deeper insight of God's Word.
- Studying in a College/School creates a discipline that helps you to be focus in studying the word of God.
- A dedicated Bible course or dedicated bible studies over a period of time gives you and others an assurance of a training from the Word of God. This further create a higher level of confidence of your knowledge in God's word.
- A Biblical College shapes you in a particular doctrine and so it's important to choose one that is truly based on the Word of God and Christ centered.
- It is also obvious that if one is to lead a Church or Assembly that some sort of training or mentoring must have taken place or that the person has been proven over time regarding the Word of God. The Bible commands us to Study to Show ourselves approved of the Word of God, truly dividing it in the right context. Paul the Apostle declared the following to Timothy in Timothy 2:15, "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth".
- Students, having a tutor they can ask questions, can be better guided in understanding the Word of God.
- Subjecting oneself to a form of Testing / Assignments / Essays / Exams helps for a better understanding of what you have learned from the Word of God.
- Tutors take the time to teach students and are able to go deeper into the Word of God with them.
It is important to note that, going through a Bible school is not a
guarantee to Heaven but can be a place to know more about Christ. It is
also important to note that one must not necessarily go to Bible school
to be a minister of the Gospel.
